Resilience, Mental Health and a New Partnership

May 12, 2021

At Lime we are passionate about helping as many people as possible stay healthy for as long as possible by providing super-simple affordable top-ups to public healthcare. This is our purpose and we live and breathe it.

As the UK gradually shifts out of lockdown and we get back to something resembling “normal” our thoughts have turned to the millions of small and medium businesses who are now having to operate in a dramatically changed marketplace. We know because we are one of them. It struck us that the next few months if not years are going to be particularly important in determining the survival of these businesses.

Resilience is a word that’s used quite a bit nowadays. It’s defined as “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness”. Which sounds exactly like what you need to weather the storm of a pandemic, doesn’t it? Whether it’s the resilience of a business or the resilience of a person, it’s about adapting well to stress or adversity.

The thing is business resilience doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It relies, of course, on the nuts and bolts of business planning, sufficient funds and the fluctuations of the market, but a large proportion relies on the adaptability and individual resilience of the people who make that business what it is… and health is clearly a huge part of that, particularly mental health.

Mental health has hit the headlines over the course of the pandemic as people have grappled with prolonged uncertainty, lockdowns, homeschooling, working from home, furlough, isolation and, not to mention, anxiety about a virus rampaging around the world. Even the return to a more usual state of affairs has not been without difficulty and it’s likely that the nation’s mental health will be under the spotlight as the full repercussions of the pandemic continue to be felt.

So, in our own small way, we’ve decided to do something about it.

We have partnered with LifeSpeak, the mental health and wellbeing platform for employee and customer-focused organisations, to offer a series of expert-led (yet completely accessible) digital health and wellbeing content directly focused on helping the SME community build the resilience they need to succeed. We will not be charging for access to this content as we believe mental health is a crucial part of business success.

We will be announcing more details of this content, our partnership and our commitment to supporting mental health over the coming weeks. Watch this space.
