“Lime’s ‘twist’ which could benefit millions”

LONDON, 19 September 2019 – Lime, the firm which strips out unnecessary cost and complexity to make high-quality insurance cover available through its online system, announces the immediate launch of its cancer cover product (today 19 September 2019).

Lime now offers easy to access, simplified, cancer cover to all UK residents. Starting from only £2.03 per month for an 18-year-old non-smoker or £3.16 per month for a 37-year-old non-smoker and will be looking to target the 16 million* people living in the UK who are currently uninsured or unsatisfied with their current suppliers.  Lime cancer care is part of its growing range of personalised insurance products.

Shaun Williams, Lime’s CEO,knows the insurance industry can do more to help people: “Cancer is a real and genuine fear for many people.  Thankfully, survival rates are starting to improve, but insurance just hasn’t changed, until now. At Lime, we are innovating and making cancer cover available and affordable for all. We want everyone to have the health insurance cover they know they need and deserve.”
“50% of the UK population born after 1960 will get diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime** and 1 person is diagnosed with cancer every two minutes (1000 per day). These figures indicate that there needs to be an immediate change for accessible and affordable cancer cover for all.”

Survival is more than three times higher when cancer is diagnosed and treated early.  So, when a family gets the devastating news that someone has cancer, they want to know they will be looked after.  The NHS provides wonderful support for cancer patients but may not always be able to fund all the drugs for the treatment required, which is where Lime can help. The cancer cover provides up to £100,000*** to pay for the cost of drugs recommended by the patient’s NHS specialist but not funded by their NHS health trust.

In addition, on diagnosis of cancer pays a one-off cash benefit of £5,000 as a safety net.  This helps the patient’s chances of overcoming the illness and relieves some of the financial and emotional pressures they and their family will face. They are also given access to a cancer helpline (the cancer helpline is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday) should they require additional information or support.

Shaun Williams added, “Cancer often has a huge financial impact on families when patients need to stop work temporarily or permanently after diagnosis. For these people the cover thatLimecan offer can change the way they are able to respond to, and hopefully beat, cancer.”

A core part of Lime’s philosophy is helping to guide its customers, giving them more control and allowing them more financial autonomy.  Lime offers simple “standalone” targeted products.  This allows people to decide on the level ofcover they really need and can afford, making a difference to their lives. Using online guidance, they can quickly and easily work out what cover they need and can choose an affordable policy which meets those needs.

Cancer Essentials for customers of Lime, is distributed and administered by Lime International Ltd.  This product is developed and managed by Aviva Health UK Limited and underwritten by Aviva Insurance Limited.

Doug Wright, medical director of Aviva says “The NHS does a brilliant job of offering an extensive range of cancer services, but financial pressures mean it simply cannot fund every cancer drug that is appropriate.
“We know how devastating a cancer diagnosis can be, so we are pleased to offer our ‘Cancer Essentials’ product through Lime so that more individuals will receive both financial and emotional support when they need it.”
